Our digital Hugh Clopton trail will let you see Stratford in a new light thanks to a virtual tour that will enable you to step back in time and explore medieval Stratford. The FREE tour can be accessed via mobile phone, tablet or laptop and PC, making it available to everyone from schools to global armchair tourists.
The unique tour uses new technologies to reveal the Hugh Clopton story. Born in 1446, Clopton made his fortune in Stratford and bequeathed money to the town on his death in 1496. He built and lived at New Place, later bought and lived in by Shakespeare, and he also gave money to improve the roads between Stratford and London.
Now the Hugh Clopton story – and that of Stratford during his lifetime – will be revealed though the words of apprentice painter Kit, who will act as a tour guide to Clopton’s legacy, including the Guild Chapel, Holy Trinity church and Clopton bridge, for which he left money in his will.
